Why Now
Interview • 2026
Romano Toscano on the collapse, the comeback, and why this mission starts now.
THE EXPLORER’S GRAND SLAM · 7 SUMMITS · 2 POLES · 1 MISSION
No Safe Margin follows Romano Toscano across the Explorer’s Grand Slam — seven summits and two poles, nine expeditions into the world’s most extreme terrain. Fewer than 150 people have ever completed it. In real terms, it carries the kind of odds that once belonged to a moon landing: meticulously trained for, never fully controllable, and not guaranteed to end in success. Altitude, cold, and terrain don’t negotiate. This is a human story set against a planetary emergency — glaciers in retreat, ice sheets thinning, ecosystems running out of time — and there’s no script that promises Romano reaches the end of it.
